Is Makeup Harmful During Pregnancy
No makeup isn’t harmful during pregnancy as long as it is free of the following chemicals that are harmful to both you and your child. Any beauty products that have these listed should be avoided when you are pregnant. Lots of beauty products contain these chemicals that are terrible for your body and banned in other countries so you know they aren’t safe. Not sure why we allow our makeup to be made with these in the first place!
Fragrance can be toxic to your little one as well so watch the labels and make sure they are fragrance-free, just because it says it’s safe is not always the case, unfortunately. No one wants their baby to have problems because of the products they used during pregnancy, that would be horrible!
If you were to use Parabens during pregnancy it may disrupt the fetal and postnatal growth of your little boy, these are things found in moisturizers, shampoo, soaps, and makeup to be very vigilant on what you put on your body.
Start by looking at all the products you use and swap them out with ones that don’t contain any of these chemicals in them. This will give your baby the best chance at growing healthy and staying safe during your pregnancy.
- Salicylic Acid
- Benzoyl Peroxide
- Soy Products
- BHA & BHT
- Hydroquinone or Glutathione
- Dibutyl Phthalate

Final Thoughts on Safe Makeup Brands During Pregnancy
It is always best to never assume a product is safe to use, you are better off looking into it first or getting referred to good brands from your doctor. You can also look it up using the database I have listed below.
To check and see if a product is good for you, look into the EWG Skin Deep Database and type in the product, it will give you a score on each one and let you know if it is a good choice or not! I didn’t know you could do this when I was pregnant so I thought I would share this insight with you. It’s a wonderful site to use!!
When in doubt always look it up!
