7 Health Benefits Of Honey You May Not Know

Sharing is caring!

The health benefits of honey are just amazing! It has so many good things that it does, I had no idea until I was researching one day and found this out. It has to be raw unpasteurized honey for any of it to be beneficial. People have been using honey for it’s antibacterial and anti fungal properties since ancient Bible times. King Solomon of the Bible talked about using honey for it’s good properties and he was a very wise man.

You should never give honey to an infant or child under 1 because it could have botulism in it and they don’t have the ability to fight it off like older children and adults.

These Are The Many Health Benefits of Honey

Lower The Risk Of Heart Attack

High quality honey contains antioxidants which help reduce the risk of heart attack by helping lower your blood pressure as well as strokes, and some types of cancer. It may also help promote eye health. Honey also helps improve cholesterol by lowering LDL cholesterol and raising HDL the good cholesterol.

Healthy Weight Management

Replacing the sugar you consume with honey has been found to lower your chances of obesity by the lowering of serum triglycerides. When consumed honey can activate hormones that suppress the appetite. This keeps you from over eating and snacking on unhealthy foods throughout the day.

Natural Allergy relief

Bee pollen is known to ward off infections and boost overall immunity. When you ingest a tiny bit of pollen from honey your body’s immune system goes into attack mode and kills it causing you to produce antibodies that will defend against it any time you are in contact with it again. By consuming honey from the area in which you live your body will slowly build up an immunity to the pollen from the flowers that you may be allergic to in tern helping reduce your allergy suffering over time. I have heard that it is best to do this around the end of winter so that by spring you will have built more of an immunity to the pollen rather then consuming it in the beginning of allergy season. A tablespoon a day is what is recommended.

A 2013 study (Dr. Axe Food is medicine) found that eating honey at a high dose (one gram per kilogram of body weight of honey daily) can improve allergy symptoms over a period of eight weeks. Researchers absorbed that the honey consumption improved overall and individual symptoms of allergic rhinitis.  Allergic rhinitis is an allergic response that causes itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and other similar symptoms.

Natural Energy Source

Honey contains natural sugars, water, minerals, vitamins, pollen and protein. These are amazing when it comes to excising and recovery after. Your body can easily absorb the energy glycogen and is equivalent to most power bars used by athletes to refuel.

Sleep Promoter

Honey helps restore sleep in two ways. It restockes the liver’s glycogen supply and prevents the brain from triggering a crisis search for fuel which has been found to make you wake up. The second thing it does is help release melatonin by creating small spikes in insulin levels. Melatonin also helps boost your immunity and helps your body repair itself while you are asleep, in turn giving you a more restful sleep and helping reduce the risk of health problems.

Wounds And Ulcer Healing

Honey has an antibacterial affect and also reacts with the body’s fluids to make hydrogen peroxide causing bacteria to die. It has been known to help reduce the size, pain and odor of skin ulcers as well because of the inhospitable environment that is created by the honey for bacteria.

Cough Syrup

Raw honey has been found to help treat coughs according to studies and also on Source. If you are stuck with a cough try this. It helps by reducing the mucus secretion and is more effective then some over the counter cough syrups. Just a half a teaspoon to two teaspoons of honey at bedtime works great in reducing a cough in anyone one year and older.

Conclusion: Health Benefits of Honey

According to Source there are 36 different uses for Raw Honey I have only listed 7 here. It can help with Preventing cavities, skin healing, stress and cortisol, vomiting and diarrhea, colitis, liver damage, leukemia, canker sores and so much more. Check out her link if you want to know more about honey.

The Bible recommends consuming honey for it’s benefits but also cautions against over consumption. Proverbs 25:16 says, “Do you like honey? Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick!”

Honey like any other food should be consumed in moderation or it will make you sick. However if you have a bee allergy or sensitivity to celery, or pollen then you should not consume it as it may cause serious problems or allergic reactions.

If you are all about natural remedies I defiantly recommend using raw honey for many of it’s benefits, you can go to farms and buy the honey or a natural food store.

It is also available online if you would rather buy it that way. I recommend using this brand of honey called YS Organic Bee Farms CERTIFIED ORGANIC RAW HONEY. It is unprocessed, unpasteurized and kosher.
